New Orleans Murder Map

The New Orleans Murder Map tracks the number and locations of murders that have occurred within the city during the current calendar year. The map is updated several time a day when a server-side script checks for changes to a Google Sheet maintained by Times-Picayune reporters and writes them to JSON for use in the display.

Besides the map, a JavaScript application composes a page with multiple counter widgets (a graphical number and a bar graph) which compare current totals to the previous calendar year and builds a timeline of names which link back to the initial report of the incident as published by the Times-Picayune. A Slack bot updates staff that updates have been published.
